Toben & Marty Windahl
Between
Dog and Wolf A horror poem recited using videotaped landscape elements,
bits of old movies, pre-taped performance and live shadow Thois tells a story
about the mechanization and industrialization of the pastoral Iowa landscape,
nightmarish lakes of pig excrement, and the erosion of an economy and social
fabric that was much more local in character. The piece tracks the course of
a day, from dawn till dusk, and is a battle of sorts between the ghosts of those
past, the ephemeral and delicate aspects of the local ecosystem and pseudo-rational
mentality that sees land as a site purely of resource extraction.
Toben Windahl is a practicing architect. Marty Windahl
is a video and sound artist. They are joined by Emily Gosack
who has worked with East Bay shadow puppet group Teatro Penumbra.
