The Blue Family

In 1996 Keith Hennessy and I received a grant from the Market Street Arts-In-Transit Program to create a 5-hour processional theatre performance along the Market Street corridor "the city's main arterial." Our piece, The Blue Family was a walking meditation in which a group of strangers go in search of the heart of the city and instead find many hearts. Performance actions included drawing a circle in flowers and dancing arrival in Justin Herman Plaza, taking poloroids with the tourists at Powell and Market Streets, buying, preparing and sharing lunch with the ciy's citizens at the Civic Center Farmer's Market, seeking center in the wasteland under the freeway and dancing in the Life Garden in the Castro.
